Ordonez to the Tigers
After losing out on almost every free agent they pursued ,they finally signed one. Magglio Ordonez is set to sign a 5 year 75 million dollar deal. Thats a lot for a 31 year old with bad knees, but there should be some sort of injury clause. According to Tigers Central.com, Tigers officials should announce this on Monday, or Tuesday. Also according to Tigers Central, the Tigers have to make room on there 40 man roster, so you could see either Thames or Logan sent to Toledo. This deal will make the Tigers an instant contender in the weak AL central.

Well, If they finalize a deal with no injury clause I would be a little worried. Remember the Juan Gonzalez deal was in the Randy Smith era, and now Dombrowski is much smarter. Am I worried? no not my money.
I can't see Dombrowski NOT setting up a health/performance driven contract. It just wouldn't make sense. Yes, Magglio has only had one injured season, but the injury to his knee is abnormal. Boris knows this, Magglio knows this, and no one else is coming near the Tigers' offers.
People are getting nervous, it's taking too long. Well, sure, it is, but then again, when has Scott Boras ever done a quick deal?
www.TigersCentral.com looks like the deal is done. No official word, but the guys at Tigers Central are pretty reliable. 5 years 75 million seems like an awful lot though.
HORRENDOUS contract for Mags, who's not going to be able to provide the kind of offense that the money demands.
If the Tigers wanted to spend big bucks on a free agent, why not go for a JD Drew or a Carlos Delgado, two players who will make less than Ordonez and have WAY better years?
This reeks of desperation. And, ultimately, it won't make the Tigers better than Minnesota or Chicago. But on the surface it does make things look like the Tigers are trying to compete, which is more than you can say for a lot of teams.
The nice thing about the deal is if the osteochondritis comes back, the Tigers can void the contract. I see a no-risk deal here. I think it's a great move. If he's healthy, he can help.
I like the deal because of the easy out if his knee keeps him on the dl for 25 days this year.

I agree with the Dan Joseph, and Sauce. Ordonez is much better then J.D Drew and the aging Carlos Delgado. If there were no clauses in the Maggs deal that would be another thing, but there are so its fine.
well, if you compare it to the $14 million per year he got in Chicago, $15 million isn't a bad deal really. Unfortunately, not only do the Tigers have to overpay, but they can't really talk a proven hitter down on his previous price...
